How To Use Affirmations Properly

“I am, therefore I exist,” is a phrase affirming one’s existence. It may be a simple phrase, but it says everything about the person saying it. It indicates a confidence that you don’t normally see in other people.

But why do we need affirmations? Why do we need to be affirmed?

How to Use Affirmations

Affirmations are a very powerful technique to empower one’s subconscious. Once the subconscious is disciplined to believe the affirmation, the latter is converted into a positive action for the conscious mind. Through affirmations, we are empowered to do, to work, and to strive for more things. Affirmations allow people to believe in themselves and to put their thoughts into action.

Affirmations are a combination of verbal and visual techniques of a preferred state of mind of a person. Strong affirmations can be very powerful and can be used by almost anyone to achieve goals and fulfill desires. However, the power of an affirmation depends on how strong or weak an affirmation is.

An affirmation is merely an assertion made by a person, about something or about a state of being. A person can affirm those that they choose to attain, like “I now have a good life.” Being healthy in mind, body, and spirit can also be made possible through affirmation.

A strong affirmation should be stated in the present tense to be more effective. An affirmation of “I am now happy” is more effective than an affirmation saying, “I am going to become happy.” An affirmation should always be in positive terms because it is supposed to work for you and not against you. Instead of saying, “I am not sad,” why not make an affirmation saying, “I am happy.”

An affirmation should be made up of simple but concise words, and it should be short to be more effective. A very long affirmation can work the other way around, instead of creating a positive mindset for a person. A short affirmation can be easily spoken and repeated by a person. It can serve as a mantra that can be repeated over and over again.

To be effective, an affirmation must be repeated. Repetition works and influences the subconscious, which in turn motivates the person into acting out his or her affirmation. A person who creates the affirmation should be deeply involved with the words they will be using, so they will be able to actualize their affirmation. Writing words that one believes in can be very powerful, and this can be put to good use when creating an affirmation.

However, creating an affirmation alone and repeating them a million times would not make the affirmation a state of mind. The important thing is to live one’s affirmation and to be open-minded enough to do the things that would help the affirmation become a reality. Feeling the affirmation and applying it in one’s life will help in making the affirmation a reality.

While affirmation is generally used to make an individual better, it can also be used to boost or confirm another person’s value. By affirming another person‘s existence, you are helping them improve their self-worth.

An affirmation is a very simple thing that can make a very big difference in a person‘s life. It can be a great motivator and can make things happen.

There Are 168 Hours Per Week For Everyone!

Life begins and ends one hour at a time. Let’s be honest, we all have 168 hours in a week.  The difference between someone like Gary Vaynerchuk and yourself or myself for that matter, is simply what we do with our time.

So let’s look at what we truly have time for.

We start with 168 hours. But there are times in this block we can’t count on. So let’s clear out the basics.

How much sleep should I get?

We’ve all heard the phrase, “You need 8 hours of sleep.” The Sleep Health Journal says an adult needs 7-9 hours of sleep per day.  But, if you look into the thing we NEED like REM Sleep, we may realize exactly what we need. I’ve read articles and reports trying to find what I need.  I found that (for me) I have REM Sleep Cycles around 1.5 hours.

That means if I sleep in cycles of 1.5 hours then I’m getting the most out of my sleep.  So for me, I know that I need about 7.5 hours of sleep per night.  For example, last night I was asleep by 930 pm and up at 5 am, feeling like I could run the world.

If you want, please use this time to start doing your own research and find your prime sleep schedule. Please use resources like this report and anything else that helps you.

So for me, I spend 7.5 hours per night sleeping. That’s 52.5 hours per week spent sleeping. But since some people need more than me we’ll go on the top end and say 9 hours per night, which is 63 hours.

Now we have roughly 105 hours. That is still a lot of time!

But, some people work day jobs and don’t have much time to work on their dreams. So now let’s add in a full-time job with some decent over time. Let’s say you average 12.5 hours per week in over time. So that will be about 52.5 hours spent working on someone else’s dream.  (If you work for yourself and are currently not at least putting in these hours then you need to pick it up!)

With work taken out of the remaining 105 hours, that leaves us with a total of 52.5 hours left.

But, there is still a lot of things we have to count for.

The next thing we have is our hygiene.  So let’s say you spend 1 hour per day taking showers, washing your hands & we’ll throw in going to the bathroom as well. That leaves us with 45.5 hours.

Now, if you are like me and want good food then you have to prep and cook everything.  So let’s say we take an hour for each meal to cook and eat.  This is exclusive time cooking so you can still squeeze time out here while the grub is in the oven!

We now have 24.5 hours left in our week.  Think about that! That is still enough time to work a decent part time job! lol

But, you may be dead set on having a day off in there.  So let’s take away the 11 hours of our unused time on Sunday for church or just relaxing around the house.

That still leaves us with 13.5 hours left in our week.

So now, let’s go on a date with our significant other! Dinner and a movie? 3.5 hours!

It sounds like you aren’t that busy after all! You still have 2 hours per day, Monday through Friday, to work towards reaching your goals in life or simply relaxing and focusing on your happiness.

Remember one thing, this isn’t to tell you to work around the clock.  This is to show you that if you analyse your patterns throughout your week you may find that you have a lot more time left that you were counting as busy when you really weren’t.

Break down your week and let me know what you found.  How many hours do you waste per week acting busy, instead of being productive? Or are you finding that you are productive with your time?

Sailing Your Ship in the Storm

Steering Your Ship In The Storm

And when the ship was caught and could not face the wind, we gave way to it and were driven along – Acts 27:15

A few years ago, I had the privilege of trying a new church.  I had been in the church a long time ago when my sister and her husband tied the knot. But, I had never been in the church otherwise.

An old friend of mine I had gone to school with years ago gave the sermon and the message was so powerful I had taken some notes and started this blog post. It was years ago and this blog was originally shared on the Stay Boosted Blog.  Since I have decided to let the blog at Stay Boosted go, I figured I would give you the 2.0 version of the blog post.

The verse I quoted above says so much if you think about it.  The problem is we think about things literally too much. But, if we pay attention to the meaning, it changes a lot!

The ship you’re sailing in, in your life, will hit storms but how do you handle it?

The storm this ship hit had taken control of the storm and they couldn’t go any further until they let go and let the ship drive herself.

When we go through the trials and tribulations of life, there are times when the storm takes us and beats our “ship” to pieces but if we have faith and believe that everything will be alright, we can let go and allow the ship to drive herself. It’s not easy to do but it helps when we realize all we can do is use the cards that we have in our hand.

What storms are you facing right now? I’ll tell you I’m going through some mental storms right now with the recent loss of a few friends and still missing my Dad. It has pulled me closer to those that I still have here with me.  There is always positive with a negative. You just have to open your eyes and see it!

Let the baggage that is holding you back go and let the ship sail!  You may not immediately be headed towards the destination you think you want to reach but you WILL reach the destination you need to!!!!

Just wanted to share a bit today as I work on some more content for you all today.

If you need anything, just shoot me a message on Instagram.
