After being part of the local business loop (if you will) I’ve noticed a lot of people don’t realize how there business looks online and will believe anything if someone throws some big words around and acts like a guru. ( Search Engine Optimization, conversions, convergence… Even Twitter sounds like a foreign language to some people)

Do You Know What Your Getting When Your Paying For Online Marketing?

If you are paying to sponsor a website, podcast, online video show and/or anything else you need to make sure of 2 things:

1. Is it helping YOUR business or just Theirs?

2. Are you getting TRAFFIC that was promised from paying to put your logo on their site?

Is it helping you? If the site gets 3 million visitors a month but its about gardening and you are a travel agent… It Doesn’t Help You!! It means you have a lot of money that you don’t want(You can send me that money and I’ll put your logo on my site! **Just Kidding**)

Are you getting Traffic? 1st thing 1st! Are They Getting Traffic? You can say that you are getting a lot of traffic all you want but if you can’t prove it then you probably don’t have it.  Do you want to see where you rank?

What is your Alexa Rank??

What is Alexa Rank? …

To define what Alexa rank is, this quote is directly from alexa.com and here is its original quote;

The traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and data obtained from other, diverse traffic data sources, and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach). As a first step, Alexa computes the reach and number of page views for all sites on the Web on a daily basis. The main Alexa traffic rank is based on a value derived from these two quantities averaged over time (so that the rank of a site reflects both the number of users who visit that site as well as the number of pages on the site viewed by those users). The three-month change is determined by comparing the site’s current rank with its rank from three months ago. For example, on July 1, the three-month change would show the difference between the rank based on traffic during the first quarter of the year and the rank based on traffic during the second quarter.

Because the definition is directly from Alexa.com, so it is very accurate and trust-worthy.

Take their website and put it into the search bar … if they are promising that they get a lot of traffic their site will probably rank close to 2million or lower as it ranks 1 being the best (Facebook then 2 Google etc..) if they are above 2 million I would ask more questions.

If you want a laugh … check yours! I’ve seen recently a local “Guru” with his clients out-ranking him and all traffic points to the “Guru’s” site… This means the “Guru” was feeding off of the traffic from his Clients… (ie… the “Guru’s” site still isn’t above 4million!)

You have to take ownership of your business online more so than just the storefront.  Everything is online and I’d guess about 95% of your customers are online too!  Have you accessed the power of social media and the other free marketing tools available for you to use online?

Get Moving!!!
